Kimveer Gill, 25, entered Montreal’s Dawson College during lunch
time on Wednesday, Sept. 13, and randomly shot 20 students,
killing one. Police were already at the scene responding to an
unrelated incident when the shooting occurred. Gill was
shot in the arm by police, but he died from a fatal head wound,
apparently self-inflicted.
Gill kept a disturbing online diary complete with images of
himself brandishing guns and knives. “None of what you feel is
your fault,” he stated in one of his entries. “It’s the world’s
fault. It’s your parents’ fault. It’s the church’s fault…it’s
God’s fault…”
Some students fled to nearby Evangel Pentecostal Church where
staff members met and prayed with them. The church is
hoping to collaborate with Dawson’s counseling department in the
near future.
“The church has to respond in a positive way, not just a
knee-jerk reaction,” said Evangel’s senior pastor, Don Mann. “We
don’t want to use this as an opportunity to promote ourselves.”
They are carefully looking at different ways to help and serve
the community.
